Good morning from Athens, Greece! I have just returned from the airport and saying goodbye to Debra's lovely group and soon they will be safely on their way home to the USA. We had an amazing tour, over 8 days we traveled through 4000 years of history and saw places of immense beauty. Yesterday after dinner we all gathered on the roof garden of the Candia hotel and the students read me a beautiful poem that summarized our journey and reduced me to tears,,. Thank you all so much for an unforgettable time! As promised I am posting pictures taken during the tour of things I noticed, pools of light, special views and of course my favorite moments. The books I recommended on the bus this morning are:
"GATES OF FIRE" by Stephen Pressfield (about the Spartans but told from the womens' perspective) and
""STEALING ATHENA" (please google for the author) it's about the parallel lives of two historical women who at different times played an important role in Greek history.
Also please google NIKOS KAZANDZAKIS QUOTES... a prolific writer translated all over the world with simple and deeply profound philosophies.
My email, as promised, is gleewarner1@gmail.com
Take care of your good selves and remember that travel is not a classroom, it is LIFE and history occurred to inform us, so let it not remain on the pages of a book, let it guide you into tomorrow with all the wisdom, pain and joy of all our yesterdays! Otherwise did it all happen for nothing? No, it happened for us so let us be the wiser for it.
