< previousDay 10: April 2, 2016
Our departing groups left safely this morning and were checked in at the airport by Dario, an excellent colleague from Explorica. Larry Irla's group has one more day in Rome and will be departing at the crack of dawn tomorrow but today we roamed through Rome, did I really say that? Well, yes we did! Beginning at the ghoulish crypt of the Cappuchin monks, a Franciscan order who liked to stick bones from skeletons together and dress them up, rather like we might do a jigsaw puzzle. I was touched by a poem to Jesus in the museum above the crypt that ended with the words "take my heart and never give it back". Then we gently strolled to the Three Trinity Church at the top of the Spanish Steps with great views of the eternal city before a couple of hours free time for lunch and shopping. We met again and walked to the Piazza Popollo, Square of the Popes, which like so many squares of Rome is a vast magnificent space! Then came dinner in the centre and we've just returned to our hotel for some sleep before our early departure at 3.30am. We also had the pleasure of celebrating Kayla Kensley's 18th birthday today, a special celebration to end a special tour! Goodnight from Rome and for those that asked my email is: gleew@otenet.gr
Have just arrived home in Athens and adding a confirmation that I escorted Larry Irla's group to the airport early this morning and saw then safely through to departures and then returned to the hotel to accompany Laverne Zillinsky for her later flight. It really was a wonderful tour, thank you all so much!
Also want to add a special thank you to Margaret Gallinger who loaned me her Ipad for this tour diary. Unfortunately mine was lost on the morning of Delphi day... Thank you Margaret!!!
