His death came just four years after the start of the Civil War, two years after the delivery of the Gettysburg Address, five days after General Robert E. Lee surrendered, and just three months before the end of the war he had spent nearly his entire presidency fighting.<\/p>\n<p>To commemorate this significant historical anniversary, a number of \u00a0events are being hosted around Washington, D.C. and other areas significant to Lincoln&#8217;s life and death. Here are just a few:<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"Ford's Theatre\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fords.org\/home\/performances-events\/civil-war-150\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ford&#8217;s Theatre<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>See how the events played out at Ford&#8217;s Theatre, where actor John Wilkes Booth famously shot Abraham Lincoln.\u00a0To mark the 150th anniversary of Lincoln&#8217;s death, the theater is hosting a number of productions about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. Across from Ford&#8217;s Theatre you can also see\u00a0the Petersen House, the private residence\u00a0that the president was carried to after being shot and where he eventually took his last breath.<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"Newseum &quot;President Lincoln Is Dead: The New York Herald Reports the Assassination.&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newseum.org\/exhibits\/current\/president-lincoln-is-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Newseum<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Newseum will also be displaying a collection of New York Herald special edition\u2019s reports on the news of Lincoln\u2019s death from\u00a0April 15, 1865, including the 2 a.m. report from the Associated Press informing the public that Lincoln had been shot.<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"Lincoln artifacts at the National Museum of American history\" href=\"http:\/\/americanhistory.si.edu\/blog\/closer-look-president-lincolns-silk-hat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">National Museum of American History<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>See Civil War artifacts up close and personal at the National Museum of American History. One item of note is the famous <a title=\"Lincoln's carriage\" href=\"http:\/\/americanhistory.si.edu\/exhibitions\/lincolns-carriage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">carriage<\/a> that took President Lincoln\u00a0and his wife to Ford&#8217;s Theatre on the fateful day he was shot. Unfortunately, Lincoln&#8217;s famous top hat from that evening is not currently at the Smithsonian museum, but you can see it at Ford&#8217;s Theatre in\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Silent Witnesses\u00a0<\/em>exhibition.<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"Lincoln Memorial\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/linc\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Lincoln Memorial<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>To remember Abraham Lincoln, you\u00a0can see\u00a0the likeness of the\u00a0beloved president watching over the city on his marble throne.<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"Gettysburg, Pennsylvania\" href=\"http:\/\/www.destinationgettysburg.com\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Gettysburg, Pennsylvania<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>See where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous address, and follow in the footsteps of the Union and Confederate soldiers across the battlefield that served as\u00a0the stage for the turning point of the Civil War.<\/p>\n<h3><a title=\"Lincoln funeral train re-enactment\" href=\"http:\/\/lincolnfuneraltrain.org\/2015_event.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Lincoln funeral re-enactment<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>In Springfield, Illinois, there will be a re-enactment of President Abraham Lincoln&#8217;s funeral procession occurring May 1-3.
