20 ballets are performed while 10,000 music enthusiasts are treated to live classical music nightly.\u00a0 The city is so music-focused that within the course of one year, Vienna hosts more than 15,000 events of various sizes and genres.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Mozart Statue\" src=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_8614-480x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Mozart Statue in the Burggarten, near the Hofburg Palace in Vienna<\/p><\/div>\n<h1>The Soul of Genius<\/h1>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cLove, love, love, that is the soul of genius.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/em><strong>\u2013 Marriage of Figaro, Mozart<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The City of Music derived its history back in 1756 with the birth of <a title=\"The Mozart Project\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mozartproject.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Wolfgang Amadaeus Mozart<\/a>.\u00a0 Mozart\u2019s musical education began at age 4 with his father, a professional musician and music teacher.\u00a0 By age 5, Wolfgang was declared a child prodigy and performed his first European tour.\u00a0 He impressed the imperial family during a performance at the Austrian royals\u2019 summer palace, <a title=\"Schloss Schonbrunn\" href=\"http:\/\/www.schoenbrunn.at\/en.html\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Schloss Sch\u00f6nbrunn<\/a>, at just 6 years old.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace\" src=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_8637-640x480-530x397.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"397\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here I am at the Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mozart made Vienna his permanent home at age 25 &amp; moved into <a title=\"Mozarthaus Vienna\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mozarthausvienna.at\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mozarthaus<\/a> two years later with his new family.\u00a0 This is where he composed the famous opera, \u201cThe Marriage of Figaro\u201d (Die Hochzeit des Figaro).\u00a0 You can now visit Mozarthaus, which has been turned into a museum dedicated to the composer.\u00a0 Other esteemed composers include Beethoven, Haydn &amp; Schubert.<\/p>\n<h1>Die Wiener Staatsoper<\/h1>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt is hard to describe the thrill of creative joy which the artist feels when the conviction seizes her that at last she has caught the very soul of the character she wishes to portray, in the music and action which reveal it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 Maria Jeritza, Austrian opera singer<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Not only is Vienna home to prestigious composers, it also houses one of the most famous opera houses in the world, the\u00a0<a title=\"Wiener Staatsoper\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wiener-staatsoper.at\/Content.Node\/home\/Startseite-Content.en.php\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Wiener Staatsoper<\/a>\u00a0(Vienna State Opera), due to its vast repertoire.\u00a0 The exterior of the opera house was planned by Viennese architect August Sicard von Sicardsburg while the interior was designed by decorator Eduard der N\u00fcll.\u00a0 Construction took eight years to complete &amp; the house opened on May 25, 1869 with Mozart\u2019s\u00a0<em>Don Juan<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4799\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=4799\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4799\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4799\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4799\" title=\"Vienna State Opera House\" src=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_8625-480x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_8625-480x640.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_8625-480x640-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Vienna State Opera House, or <em>Wiener Staatsoper<em><\/em><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Productions took place almost daily until 1938 when the Nazi regime overtook the city, forbidding the music.\u00a0 Further devastation occurred on March 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 1945 when the opera house was struck during a bombing.\u00a0 Fortunately, the main fa\u00e7ade, grand staircase &amp; Schwind Foyer evaded any harm but the reconstruction would take 10 years to complete.\u00a0 During this time, the Vienna State Opera operated out of two different venues, giving true meaning to the phrase, \u201cthe show must go on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The opera house reopened on November 5<sup>th<\/sup>, 1945 to Beethoven\u2019s FIDELIO, which was broadcast across Austrian television in celebration.<\/p>\n<h1>Want to visit Vienna?<\/h1>\n<p><a title=\"Central &amp;
