\"\"This week we\u2019d like to introduce you to Jan, a high school guidance counselor who has visited 37 countries (and counting!) after catching the infamous travel bug.\u00a0 She exemplifies the Susan Sontag<\/a> quote, \u201cI haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

As an amateur artist, she enjoys the challenge of replicating crafts she finds around the world in her own studio.\u00a0 She\u2019s developed a deep appreciation for color used in other cultures and enjoys incorporating them into her pottery.\u00a0 As adventurous as Jan is, she\u2019ll be the first to admit that though she loves to try local foods, she draws the line at trying a Peruvian specialty\u2013guinea pig!<\/p>\n

Favorite destinations:<\/strong> Vietnam<\/a> & Cambodia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Place you most want to visit:<\/strong> Anywhere!\u00a0 Perhaps some Eastern European countries:\u00a0Poland<\/a> is currently pretty high on my \u201clist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Favorite part of travel:<\/strong> Every time we arrive home safely!\u00a0 During the actual trip, however, there\u2019s nothing better than enjoying the company of our travel-mates, meeting the local people, soaking up the sights, learning the history of each country and immersing ourselves in the culture, art, music and food.<\/p>\n

Favorite travel story:<\/strong> My husband and I were enjoying an evening walk in the French countryside south of Paris<\/a>.\u00a0 Hearing noises behind us, we turned to see a runaway llama being chased by a young circus worker.\u00a0 We helped him wrangle the llama and then\u00a0later visited the \u201cmom and pop\u201d circus in the local village.<\/p>\n

Best Explorica experience:<\/strong> We have had so many!\u00a0One that comes to mind is the Explorica Teachers\u2019 Convention<\/a> in Peru<\/a>.\u00a0 We were so moved by the reverent majesty of Machu Picchu<\/a> that we decided to lead a group to Peru, the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador<\/a> during June 2014.\u00a0 Magical!<\/p>\n

Best travel tip:<\/strong> \u00a0Always travel light!\u00a0 During free time, try to see and go where the local folks hang out.\u00a0 There\u2019s no better way to explore than on the advice of a local. Plus\u2026you just might make a new friend!<\/p>\n
