{"id":321,"date":"2009-02-04T17:50:22","date_gmt":"2009-02-04T22:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/?p=321"},"modified":"2012-10-05T10:26:40","modified_gmt":"2012-10-05T14:26:40","slug":"my-favorite-the-reichstag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/my-favorite-the-reichstag","title":{"rendered":"My Favorite: The Reichstag"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Our aim with these <strong>My Favorite:<\/strong> posts is to give our well-traveled Explorica employees a chance to share some of their favorite travel experiences with all of you.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s my favorite comes from Senior Program Consultant <strong>Alyssa Geiger<\/strong>.\u00a0 Take it away, Alyssa&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I lived in Berlin for six months a few years ago, and although there are many sights and activities that I would deem &#8216;Must Visit&#8217;, my first trip to the Reichstag left a lasting impression.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing to note about visiting the Reichstag&#8230;is that it\u2019s free! Although this can lead to very long lines during peak visiting hours, trust me, it is worth the wait.<\/p>\n<p>Right as you walk in, you notice \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reichsamt.info\/bilder\/Reichstag_Giebel.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">DEM DEUTSCHEN VOLKE<\/a>,\u201d (To the German People) in big letters above the entrance.\u00a0 Inscribed in 1916, this promise to the German people is currently upheld by hosting the Bundestag &#8211;Germany&#8217;s parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Probably the most famous part of the Reichstag&#8217;s architecture is the enormous glass dome at the top of the building &#8212; check it out&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/a\/a2\/Reichstag_Dome_8.JPG\" target=\"_blank\">it looks like a tornado<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>From there, looking out, you can get a <a href=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/a\/ae\/Es2004_reichstagdome.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">panoramic view of the Berlin cityscape<\/a>.\u00a0 Then, looking down, you can see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/cyclone-cupola.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">parliamentary set-up of the Bundestag<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A visit to the Reichstag gives travelers to Berlin an appreciation of Germany&#8217;s past, as well as a strong glimpse into it&#8217;s contemporary culture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our aim with these My Favorite: posts is to give our well-traveled Explorica employees a chance to share some of their favorite travel experiences with all of you.
