{"id":21,"date":"2008-10-28T11:34:27","date_gmt":"2008-10-28T15:34:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/?p=21"},"modified":"2012-10-05T10:10:18","modified_gmt":"2012-10-05T14:10:18","slug":"my-favorite-restaurant-in-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/my-favorite-restaurant-in-italy","title":{"rendered":"My Favorite: Restaurant in Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Our aim with these <strong><i>My Favorite:<\/i><\/strong> posts is to give our well-traveled Explorica employees a chance to share some of their favorite travel experiences with all of you.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s my favorite comes from Program Consultant Julie Castanino.\u00a0 Take it away, Julie&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Italian food is my passion, so I had to choose one of my favorite restaurants in Italy.\u00a0 <a title=\"Valle Dame\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tourist-online.com\/Holiday-Homes\/images\/470507\" target=\"_blank\">Valle Dame <\/a>is located on the same steep hill as <a title=\"Cortona\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cortona\" target=\"_blank\">Cortona<\/a>, a quaint Italian town filled with little shops, good food and even better wine.\u00a0 If you pass Cortona, and continue on a tiny winding road that has no streetlights, somewhere along the way you will find Valle Dame.\u00a0 It appears to be more of a home than a restaurant and that is definitely the feeling you get when you are there.<\/p>\n<p>You have to be open to trying different food, and picky eaters might want to pass on this one.\u00a0 There is not a menu and typically the chef, who is usually your waitress, prepares the same primi course for the entire table.<\/p>\n<p>Are you having second thoughts, yet?\u00a0 Don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I assure you, the food is well worth ever having a choice of what to eat.\u00a0 Most of the pasta is handmade (<a title=\"pici\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pici\" target=\"_blank\">pici pasta <\/a>is the pasta of the area), the wine from the Cortona area, and the meat is fresh and flavorful.\u00a0 Before you know it, you are talking with the 3 tables surrounding you, people from all over, somehow finding a way to converse because you feel the need to talk about the delicious food.\u00a0 And 3 hours later, you are wondering how you can get to your car after eating all of that food!<\/p>\n<p>I went with my family and I remember when we were leaving, we felt like we had to take something with us to remember this tiny place on the dark road high up in the hill of Cortona.\u00a0 So we have one souvenir that we will hold onto until we all make it back there soon!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/valle-dame-jug.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-65\" title=\"valle-dame-jug\" src=\"http:\/\/www.explorica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/valle-dame-jug.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our aim with these My Favorite: posts is to give our well-traveled Explorica employees a chance to share some of their favorite travel experiences with all of you.
