Bio: I grew up near Seattle, Washington. Along with playing basketball, golf and football, I found that my favorite time of the day was Spainish class. Being able to go to another country someday and speak their language seemed like the coolest thing in the world…
After a two years of community college, I moved on to the University of Washington where I studied Sociology & Communications. After college I realized I had an itch to travel and decided to move to Los Angeles, CA. After two years of fun in the sun (and grid lock traffic), a friend of mine invited me to visit him in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This opportunity seemed to good to pass up so I quit my job, sold everything I owned and flew to Argentina.
Argentina was a different world entirely, and I quickly found that whatever Spanish I had learned in high school had long since exited my memory. That being said, a trip that was supposed to last 3 months ended up being 4 years.
During my stay there, I was fortunate to have a family friend who hired me to start a call center in Buenos Aires, and with the help of an Argentine friend of mine we built and managed a call center for two years.
After that project I realized that, once again, I had the itch to travel. So I quit my job and headed off to the Pacific. I spent a month backpacking around Fiji and six months fishing the rivers of New Zealand. During this time, I met the friendliest, most genuine people of my life, and I was once again reminded of how big the world is– and how little of it I knew.
I returned to my home in Buenos Aires with the knowledge that I wanted to get into the travel industry. It was then that I learned about Explorica. Being a part of a company that introduces kids to travel sounded like the perfect fit, so I packed my bags yet again and returned to the States.
I’ve been working at Explorica for almost two years now, and last summer I had the opportunity to join our Madrid & Andalusia tour. It was an incredible experience, and it made me so happy to see how much fun the students had. I remember thinking how much I would have loved to do a trip like that in high school, and wondered how much it would have changed my life. I can’t imagine a better education than traveling the world and meeting different people, and I’m glad that I can be a part of the process!
