Senior Product Analyst

Job description

Permanent, immediately available position in travel and tourism, integrating principles of business, marketing, and market research.  Involves researching and applying knowledge of market conditions (to include local operating conditions, customer demographics, preferences and needs),  relevant to corporate tour development, design, innovation, customization, improvement, success, staff training and mentoring, and overarching, internal business standards.  More information below.   

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing market research and performing associated data analysis (post-sale, customer satisfaction assessment, for one), used corporate-wide in developing and implementing tours, internal systems, processes, and efficiency measures, address questions, and ensure quality control; 
  • Objective of increasing tour promotions, enrollment statistics, revenues, margins, corporate market positioning, customer retention and satisfaction, all by way of understanding market preference, need, and advantages that can leverage; 
  • Regularly performing market research and analysis focused specifically on business dealings of competitor, third-party organizations;
  • Regularly monitoring external industry statistics, following trends discussed in trade literature, and otherwise continuing to study the field;
  • Sharing market knowledge and product of market research performed in contributing to or at strategic, internal meetings, and corporate business and operations decisions, among them tour pricing, pipeline planning, cost-saving measures to employ, and third-party vendors and suppliers to use;
  • Performing forecasting;
  • Contributing to corporate marketing (to include online initiatives) by analyzing the effectiveness of existing corporate marketing, contemplated change or expansion, in again exploiting and leveraging market research base possessed, and travel and tour knowledge; and
  • Serving as internal, point-of-contact for tourism boards and tour suppliers, where market knowledge and market research aptitude are needed to so interface.

Required skills & experience:

One way to qualify: Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in business administration, marketing, or a related business or quantitative discipline.  Also requires one year of:

  • Global, travel and tourism experience, to include tour or product development, and direct, operational cost involvement;
  • Quality control contribution experience, regarding services central and germane to travel and tourism;
  • Experience engaging in data preparation and analysis; and
  • Experience acquiring and applying knowledge of local markets to drive business.

Other way to qualify: Candidates lacking a relevant Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent, to qualify, may instead simply show two years of:

  • Global, travel and tourism experience, to include tour or product development, and direct, operational cost involvement;
  • Quality control contribution experience, regarding services central and germane to travel and tourism;
  • Experience engaging in data preparation and analysis; and
  • Experience acquiring and applying knowledge of local markets to drive business.

Location again: Boston.  Must therefore live in the City of Boston, MA, or within a reasonable, daily commuting distance thereof (e.g., regions contemplated can include Greater Boston, Greater Lowell, or Massachusetts’ MetroWest, North or South Shore regions).  Note, too, that telecommuting (working remotely from home) generally is discouraged. 

Position, to be clear, is not a supervisory capacity. The Explorica Senior Product Analyst does not have subordinate, direct reports. The individual so engaged is a hands‐on, individual contributor, responsible principally for market research and analysis. The role does not involve management of other personnel.
