Our flight came in early this morning. By 10:30AM, we were able to check in our Hotel located in Suresnes, a western suburb of Paris. We first took a short vicinity walk around our new home for five nights in the French capital, to get acquainted with the residential environment and the shops available next door, then hopped on a tram to Paris. To get there, we had to make one transfer on to the subway, and - at the transfer station - rather than following the underground corridors to get to the subway line, we emerged at ground level, to discover some unusual sights: office towers like at home, Paris CBD, a place called “La Défense”, which urban planners located on the western fringe of the city, rather than put the high rises in the middle of Paris historical centre (not a bad idea ..).
We then jumped on the subway, to reach Central Paris, Concorde square, the Seine, Notre Dame, the usual tourist sights. We walked a lot, but were so excited by the riverside and the monuments. We had dinner, close to Notre Dame, in the lively Latin Quarter. Back to the hotel by 8:30 PM, we were happy to hit our pillows…
