Day 2: July 11, 2007

Well, here we are in Scotland! Everyone arrived safe and sound in Glasgow, and we immediately set out to get a taste of Scotland's biggest city. Glasgow is an intriging mixture of old and new, with lovely parks, magnificent Victorian architecture, grand old houses and a very vibrant city centre. We drove around the University area, known as the West End, and then popped into one of the oldest buildings in town: the Cathedral, a structure that dates right back to the twelfth to fifteenth centuries. After admiring its glorious arches and stained glass, we headed into the mercantile and civic heart of Glasgow, George Square, to see the City Chambers and then an art gallery - which used to be the house of a tobacco merchant - in Royal Exchange Square. And then some free time to explore the streets nearby, although I think the most pressing concern for our tired travellers was to get some caffeine into their systems! Finally, we headed to our hotel in nearby Moodiesburn for a well-earned dinner and a good night's rest. Tomorrow we take the high road up to the Highlands....
